KIBIGARA KOBO
きびがら工房
Kibigara Kobo (meaning broom corn studio) is an one-woman operation by Sanae Masukata 増形早苗. Based in Tochigi, Japan, she is the 3rd generation Kanuma style broom maker, crafting in the way she learned from her father and grandfather.
Sanae has a strong passion to carry on this otherwise extinct traditional craft, but only in the honest and sustainable way that she believes it is right. The broom corn she uses is all organically and responsibly grown by herself and a few other farmers in the local community.
The studio also produces woven figurines of the Chinese zodiac animals, that were invented by Sanae's father. Originally for making use of the excess stalks, these figurines are now very popular themselves.
