About the Maker
Based in Brighton, Hiroko Aono-Billson creates ceramics informed by the quiet beauty of everyday objects. Drawing on the traditions of English slipware and the Japanese folk art philosophy of Mingei, her work reflects a thoughtful dialogue between British and Japanese approaches to craft.
Each piece is individually made and finished in warm honey glazes that lend depth and softness to the clay. Celebrating utility, tactility and the marks of the maker, Hiroko’s ceramics are designed to bring a sense of warmth and considered simplicity to daily rituals.
