Vintage Japanese Sometsuke Cup Micro Botanical Pattern
Old Imari porcelain cup with hand-painted Sometsuke (blue-and-white) decoration.
Made in Japan, most likely during the late Edo period (circa 1780–1850).
The form of this vessel is either a choko cup or mukōzuke, a small bowl traditionally used for serving a modest portion of food. It features an elegant wavy rim.
The piece is hand-painted with an intricate botanical design (Mijin Karakusa motif).
Diamond grid pattern (Tasuki) is applied along the inner rim.
The base bears the inscription 成化年製 (Chenghua nian zhi, "Made during the Chenghua reign"), a mark commonly found on Japanese porcelain that emulates the style of earlier Chinese blue-and-white wares. Such marks were widely used as an homage to admired Chinese ceramic traditions rather than as an indication of the actual production date.
