Side-handled teapots are a distinctive form in Japan, unlike teapots found elsewhere in East Asia. Ohara’s ceramic work, particularly his teapots, is highly regarded and sought after by tea enthusiasts and collectors.
Elaborately crafted clay strainer is build inside the pot so that loose tea leaves will not come out from or block the spout.
Kintsugi is applied on the lid by the artist.

About Maker
Ohara Koichi is a highly acclaimed studio potter based in Tokoname, Japan. Ohara draws his inspiration from the raw textures in the nature. He mixes various local soils and materials to make his clay, glaze and slip, which often contain grit. Ohara studied physics at Meisei University before becoming a ceramic artist.
