Floating Cutting Board is made of Hinoki cypress wood.

Finely crafted by Japanese wood artisans. 

 

Hinoki is one of the most valued types of wood in Japan. It is of cypress family and well known for its fragrant citric scent. Highly durable and resistant to water, Hinoki has been widely used for bath tubs, building of temples and houses, and tested by time. Hinokitiol, a component contained in this wood is proved to be anti-bacterial naturally, and utilized in many way.

 

The round edges make the board levitate. The other side of the board will stay clean and hygienic without touching the dirt or liquid on the worktop surface. You can simply flip it over to use the other side.

These round edges also help stop the debris from falling off the board if you wish.

  • About the Maker

     

    Umeki Shoji is a blacksmith who hand forges scissors and knives. After working for a steel company in Tokyo, Umeki returned to his native Tanegashima island. He served an apprenticeship with Makise Yoshifumi, the 37th and last master of a renowned blacksmith lineage. Umeki is now the sole keeper of Makise's artisanal heritage. Read more..... 

  • Care

    *Please note that all carbon steel items require love and maintenance to prevent rust. The blade will develop patina after years of use. Care instructions are provided with each order. You can also request a rust eraser free of charge.

    *Please keep the cutting board clean after use. Wipe off any water after washing and let it air dried completely.
