Japanese Stencil-dyed Origami

Set of assorted 20 sheets with each different design.

These Origami papers are entirely handcrafted, made of natural Japanese plant fibres and recycled pulp, and hand-dyed using traditional stencil templates.
Soft and flexible yet very sturdy, ideal to fold into shapes. It would make a perfect small gift, also great for any or decorative craft projects such as card making and collage.
As the paper was not bleached, the colours look slightly muted, and give a reminiscence of old folk toys.  Each sheet carries different design without overlapping. No two pack is the same. So please let us choose a pack for you.

Stencil-dyeing ( Katazome ) has been widely seen for dyeing kimono fabrics in Japan. It is a centuries old technique that manages the most elaborate design by dyeing only. The stencils are made of layers of Japanese paper and coated with persimmon tannin, and cut out into the graphical patterns of traditional motifs. Most of these design patterns are created by Katazome artist Kuriyama Haruo and the maker holds it's rights.
