About the Maker
Takehito Ichikawa is a wood artist based in Nagoya, Japan. His practice is rooted in a long engagement with woodworking, following earlier experience in furniture making and traditional Buddhist carpentry.
Working primarily through turning, he explores the relationship between hard material and fluid form, using wood to express soft curves and refined lines. His approach is shaped by a close attention to form and balance, developed over years of working directly with a variety of wood material.
Ichikawa draws inspiration from the natural world, as well as contemporary art, culture and architecture, which inform the sculptural clarity and quiet presence of his work.
